Starting Civil Engineering Career:
Engineering has been an integral part of human life since the beginning of human civilization. Civilization is thought to have begun in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamian civilization (ancient Iraq) in 4000 and 2000 BC, just when people felt the need to build habitats for their habitation. The discovery of wheels and sails at that time greatly increased the importance of communication.
Introduction to Civil Engineering Profession:
Until recently, there was no clear distinction between civil engineering, architecture, and architecture. The Egyptian pyramids (2600-2500 BC) are considered to be the first examples of large structures in world history. The Institute of Civil Engineers was established in London in 1818. In 1820, Thomas Telford was elected the first president. In 1828 the institution adopted the royal charter, which recognized civil engineering as a profession.
Start Studying Construction Engineering Careers:
In 1819, Norwich University became the first private college to teach civil engineering in the United States. The first degree in civil engineering was awarded in the United States in 1835 by the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In 1905, Nora Stanton became the first woman to receive a degree in civil engineering from Cornell University.
